Aussie Woolshed in Hervey Bay, Australien

The Woolshed is a small, truly unique, multi-award winning Backpackers built along the theme of an Aussie Woolshed. Clean, friendly, quiet, family run hostel. The perfect escape from the hostel party circuit. Our rooms are spread out over 4 buildings situated on 1 acre of lush tropical gardens and a large lawn! We are located right in the center of Hervey Bay and only a 400m walk to the beach, shops, supermarket, restaurants and a couple of good pubs.


Here at the Woolshed Backpackers we like to do our best to make all of our guests feel very welcome and at home. Which is not hard as we live here too! We are well aware that travelers have different expectations, budgets and tastes which is why we have set up a wide variety of rooms to suit all budgets.

We have won Cleanliness awards, Best Atmosphere awards, voted top 10 Hostel in Australia, been Lonely Planet�s �Our Choice� for budget accommodation in Hervey Bay in multiple editions and are mentioned in more travel guides than we knew existed.

There is a great range of Fraser Island tours departing from the Woolshed every day as well as whale watching cruises during the whale watch season and can be booked through the hostel at no extra charge. Talk to us... we offer independent advice based on local knowledge and experience and always have deals/packages available.

Relax and unwind in our tranquil surroundings. Our tropical gardens, surrounded by ponds, palms and gum trees attract a lot of wildlife, there is daily parrot feeding, possums like to drop in for a visit and Hervey Bays famous fruit bats can be spotted most evenings as they fly in their thousands over the Woolshed on their way to Fraser Island.

If you would like to meet the other guests, find new friends, have a drink and a chat, why not drop in at our common room. It resembles an Aussie Woolshed, is entirely built of wood, oozes character and has a surreal atmosphere that needs to be experienced. There is a well equipped kitchen within this building with gas cookers, microwave, fridge, freezer and lots of cooking gear.
There are no hidden extras like linen fees, day use fees or crockery deposits.

Our office hours are 7.00am-7.00pm Mon-Sat & 7am-11am then 4pm-7pm Sun. Late or after hours check ins can be arranged (24 hours!) Please phone or email to arrange.

We're the perfect escape from the party scene and only a five minute walk to the supermarket, restaurants and pubs.

Our hostel is set on one acre of tropical trees and gardens which attracts plenty of wildlife.

We're happy to arrange courtesy transfers from the bus station; they need to be arranged before arrival so please send us an email beforehand.

Reception hours are 7am to 2pm then 4pm to 7pm Monday to Saturday; and 7am to 11am and 5pm to 7pm Sunday. For check-in's outside of these hours please arrange with hostel prior to checking in. Late check in's can also be arranged. Once we receive your booking we'll email you confirmation and instructions for your courtesy pick up from the bus terminal (7am-7pm).
