Travel like a pirate. Live like a local. Cheap, way laid back, drunk & next to the beach.

This is an old-school hostel with active-travel sensibilities. Home to the 'Pirata Challenge', you will recieve at check-in a to-do list that covers absolutely everything worth your time in Rio. If you check enough of them off the list, you can win a free night... who else does that? Nobody.

We do weekly beach football matches, weekly beach barbecues, we give you free chairs and umbrellas on Ipanema beach, and we hike Dois Irm�os the first week of every month.

Bar? Why would we want to rip you off with a bar? Bring in your own booze... mix your own caipirinhas in the kitchen, then take 'em down to the beach for the sunset or sunrise. Thiis is that place... this is Piratas.

One last thing: if you're looking for comfort... look somewhere else. If you're looking to leave Rio feeling like you really saw, heard, tasted & DID the place... we're your huckleberry; see you soon.

It would be nice to have real blankets along with the sheet covers. I think you need to fix the stairs before some of the steps totally collapse. And the kitchen needs a total cleaning - there is grime everywhere. Put a hook or a bungee cord on the refrigerator to keep the door shut and out the warmth and you will save yourselves a bunch of money. Staff is nice, it is really close to the beach.
