Located in an 80 year-old, neo-republican mansion that has been restored to recover its genuine colonial, Caribbean feel, this is one hostel where you won't feel like you're still backpacking.

While bringing comfort and convenience to your stay, we are also imparting history and style. The large, high ceiling manor, with its eleven dorms and suites houses up to 60 people and provides beverages for many more.

Created by two brothers, Ryan & Evan Doré, La Brisa Loca encompasses everything great they found in the best backpackers hostels around the world after years of traveling and research. This beautiful, centrally located hostel is in a two-story, 80 year-old neo-republican mansion that has been meticulously restored and remodeled to recreate the colonial charm of the historic building while providing a variety of amenities for the value conscious backpacker.

With an ideal, central location we are only a few feet from Plaza San Francisco, one block from Parque Bolivar, two blocks from the oldest Cathedral in South America (repent your sins free of charge), and three blocks from the beach and local nightlife (with bars and clubs playing sexy salsa to booty shaking beats). Our location in Santa Marta is perfect for enjoying the city.

Experiencing Colombia outside Santa Marta couldn't be easier: a visit to the beautiful white sand beaches in the Parque Tyrona is a must for any self-respecting beach bum; if you prefer your coffee roasted rather than your skin, visit the stunning mountainous coffee region of Minca, which has a number of waterfalls and natural pools for you to explore; take the plunge and check out the array of colors and species on display with the very reasonably priced SCUBA diving in Taganga, as well as in Santa Marta; or become Indiana Jones and venture deep into the jungle to the lost cities of the Sierra Nevada and to the exotic region of la Guajira. There is so much to do here, but then you must face the greatest task of all… leaving the hostel!

Taking in the traditional style and color schemes of authentic Colombian Caribbean architecture you will enjoy and appreciate the highlights of the region not only out and about in the oldest colonial city in the Americas, but also comfortably in your hospedaje. From cooling off in the pool in the open air colonial courtyard, (please no fruit revealing banana hamocks), or watching the bustling city streets from one of our balconies, to scouring the seven seas for salty sea dogs and pirates atop ye olde crows nest (well from our roof top terrace anyway… g'arrr!)(coming soon).
