Situated directly opposite the railway station, Downtown Backpackers is ideally located, being the closest hostel to trains, buses and the interisland ferry, and is only a few minutes walk to Parliament, the
new stadium, the city area and Te Papa, Wellingtons fabulous Museum of New Zealand.
Downtown Backpackers is located in Wellingtons historic Art Deco Waterloo Hotel, a former high class hotel which was chosen for the Queens 1953 Coronation Tour. This hotel was one of the top hotels in the Southern Hemisphere in its day. It is a classic example of the podium design of Art Deco architecture and is listed as historically significant by both the Historic Places Trust and the Wellington City Council.
Facilities include ensuite bathrooms, Sky TV, hair salon, travel centre, your choice of a self catering kitchen or our own in house cafe. We provide fast internet access with four 56k machines, and an excellent bar with a games room inclusive of pool tables and the latest video games.

The location is really good,but if u're arriving with a car expect to pay about 24$ for 24h stay on the port parking lot.The rooms seemed pretty clean but are really old looking and have weird smell to it.We stayed in twin private. Sara, from Slovenia ~ 14th Dec 2012
