Smoking ban to hit Madrid

The Associated Press has brought it to my attention that the Spanish government is taking inspiration from other countries that have already implemented total prohibition of sparking up a cig in all restaurants and bars.
Apparently, they've reported no negative impact on the hostel sector or the economy, which is why Spain's starting to come around to their way of thinking.
Although this isn't what the Spanish Hostelry Federation believes. It claimed on Tuesday (December 14th) that the forthcoming legislation, when taking into account the effects of the recession, might potentially cause losses of up to 11 billion (£9.8 billion).
Health minister Trinidad Jimenez has said that the government wants a law to be passed in 2010 that prevents smoking in public places like eateries and watering holes. As it stands, smokers are not allowed to puff away at work but they can if they are in a bar that is smaller than 100 sq ms or in a restaurant with bigger floor spaces and specially-constructed areas.
Never mind if you are a smoker - this seems like a great reason to quit. I know loads of people who gave up after the government brought in the smoking ban and now they say it's the greatest thing that ever happened (although they were quite grumpy about it at first).
It'll also mean that your taste buds are more capable of working, which in turn will allow the delicious taste of all that tapas to flood into your mouth with the greatest of ease. According to the Examiner, you're spoiled for choice where tapas is concerned in Madrid. There's one bar for every six people in Spain!

I'm a smoker, here in Italy there's a total smoking ban, but I can confirm that is a great thing. Even if you're a smoker you cannot deny the pleasure of fresh and clean air while you're drinking a beer. I don't like cigarettes from others, I like my smoke.By Smokers Choice, Dec 22 2009 AT 02:04 PM
