New York is good for bargains, it has been said

If you're planning to stay in a hostel in New York any time soon and are saving up your hard-earned cash to do a spot of luxury shopping, you might be well-advised to consider doing a bit of research on the internet before you hit the pavement running, as one journalist has said that by doing so, proper bargains can be found.

According to the Daily Telegraph's Adriaane Pielou, Tiffany ring shopping is better done in the Big Apple as, not only does it exude the same glamour as it does in the Audrey Hepburn flick, the jewellery twinkling at you in those magical glass cases is also substantially cheaper than say, in Britain.

She drew attention to the "classic Tiffany engagement ring", which costs $8,500 (£5,315) in the New York branch but £6,300 in London.

"New York is still the world's shopping HQ. None of its rivals offer anywhere near as comprehensive a range of delectable things at unbeatable prices," Ms Pielou remarked.

She also went on to state that hunting out new pieces for wardrobes offers "some of the best buys" around and recommended heading to Saks, Ralph Lauren and Bloomingdales after comparing prices at these stores with others based in the UK to really put a smile on your face.

Of course, shopping shouldn't be all that you get up to while on holiday in New York. Taking in some attractions is certainly a must and signing up to a Circle-Line Sightseeing Cruise could be a fun way of doing this. The Harbor Lights Cruise - which lasts two hours - takes people on a trip down the Hudson, offering great views of the NYC skyline.
