Mix new and old in Paris

But what to do while there? There's always so much going on in Paris that making any kind of decision about activities is, I find, a bit of a struggle. Aside from the obligatory climb of the Eiffel Tower - which I've visited every time I've been to the city and it never gets old - making up your mind about what to get up to can be tricky.
If you're finding yourself in that position now and are currently in danger of just spending your entire holiday holed up in your Paris hostel, then perhaps you should let ol' Sam Buckley point you in the right direction. Trust me, I'm a traveller. The Associated Press has put me onto something rather cool, which may be of interest. It's an art exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo, featuring the work of French photographer Gerard Rancinan.
But this is no ordinary display. Metamorphoses incorporates a few iconic works from years gone by - including Theodore Gericault's masterpiece The Raft of the Medusa from 1819 - with a splash of modern-day thinking added. A close look at Rancinan's version of Gericault's painting will show you what I mean - instead of a shipwreck being depicted, a horde of pierced and tattooed people are struggling towards a Hollywood sign, dealing with the issue of immigration.
It's only on until November 30th though so you'd better get your skates on right quick or you'll miss out.
