I was very disappointed with the general attitude of the staff, especially the kitchen stuff who could have not been more unfriendly if they tried. Communication with guest are also not excellent. There was an miscommunication in booking and I was checked out a day earlier without warning. Good hostel, I like the fact that it is big and spacious and the free breakfast is always an asset. The location was great if Santa Monica is your target. Not liked the fact that it is a alcohol free environment - I understand that some people can get out of control, but there is a great patio that I could have used to have a glass of wine while reading a book. This location is a nice little city on the ocean.I did not have enough time to do all I wanted to do in seven nights.I found it extremely easy to navigate via public tranportation and used a Budget rent a car for two days to visit some friends, Costco in Marina del Ray, and return to LAX to make a 6 AM flight back to NYC.The breakfast had a nice selection and coffee was complementary well beyond the breakfast hour.I found the Fish & Chips at Ye Old Kings Pub on the corner excellent. The location of the Hostel in Santa Monica is great. You just walk two blocks to see the ocean and of course the beach. My sister and i really enjoyed the stay. Mirka, from Germany ~ 3rd Aug 2011

Fantastic location - this is a large hostel with a great atmosphere. The showers have one tap, which leads to a temperature which is not always satisfactory (ie - too hot/too cold/luke warm - never quite right). Hannah, from Australia ~ 23rd Jul 2011
