I stayed at the HI-LA (Santa Monica) Hostel over the 4th of July weekend. It was busy but very organized. There was free breakfast with real orange juice and cereal. Staff worked hard to keep the place clean. I had great roommates that talked and wanted to hang out some together. Desk staff was well prepared to answer questions about LA. It is more expensive than most hostels but probably worth it.

Obnoxious staff but other than that a good hostel, very close to the beach. Fairly sterile environment as one normally encounters with HI, but i would recommend it on location alone.

They Charged me and then canceled my reservation. Staff is a little short in the hospitality factor. Staff bends over for some and not for others, very partial!!!
